Rebecca Conway highlights a surprising post-Covid legal expenses trend.

The pandemic has sparked an increase in a number of types of Legal Expenses Insurance (LEI) claims over the past two years, but one unexpected trend has been a rise in dog bite claims.

In this blog for Insurance Post, our Chief Legal Officer Rebecca Conway considers the possible reasons for this increase and explores the process of seeking justice for an attack through a LEI policy.

“Many people might be surprised to find that an LEI policy attached to their household insurance could give them access to experts who can help them to pursue a legal case against a dog owner.”

According to Rebecca, the process of seeking justice from a dog owner following an attack can be tricky for a number of reasons including:

• Lack of indemnity
• Inability to identify the owner
• Circumstances of the attack
• Known characteristics of the animal

Therefore, she highlights the importance of checking LEI policies carefully, and discussing the situation with an expert in advance of taking legal action.
