Support Engineer

Arc Legal Assistance is a specialist provider of legal expenses insurance and related services. 

Based in Colchester, we work with insurers, intermediaries, financial institutions and affinity groups, focusing upon delivering bespoke solutions providing 'best in market' legal advice and case handling.

Our business model for legal expenses insurance involves outsourcing legal advice and the legal conduct of claims to top quality law firms.

Purpose of the role

To provide support for and maintenance of systems at the hardware and application level. The successful candidate will have a proactive attitude towards helpdesk and assisting users across the business, managing incidents via the helpdesk ticketing system, ensuring time allocation and SLAs are adhered to.

Main Tasks


  • Working with VMWare ESXi/vSphere hosts
  • Configuration of MS Windows Server 2012 - 2016
  • Configuration and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange server
  • Management of Microsoft Active Directory, Group policy, DNS and DHCP
  • Veeam Backup and Replication
  • Veritas Backup Exec
  • Remote Desktop Services administration and user setup
  • Testing and deploying Windows updates
  • Sophos complete security suite administration
  • Server and security checks


  • Thin client administration
  • Computer and laptop setup and troubleshooting

Network infrastructure:

  • Ongoing maintenance of the physical network
  • Maintenance of internet routers and firewalls


  • Identify areas where IT can improve business processes
  • Participate in ad-hoc project work
  • Office 365 and Power BI administration
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be set by the Information Security & Systems Manager

Experience and Person Specification

  • Computer/technical related university degree, 2:1 or above
  • Working knowledge of Legal Expenses Insurance
  • Previous experience of RDS and thin client administration
  • Previous experience using SQL
  • Previous knowledge of Jira service desk and Confluence
