Arc Legal launches new Commercial trading platform

Towergate Insurance - Marine, the retail marine division of Towergate, and Gallagher Heath Insurance Services have become some of the first brokers to use Arc Legal’s new trading platform for Commercial Legal Expenses.

The platform, called Legal for Business, is an online quotation and policy management system for Commercial Legal Expenses.  It provides a seamless service for brokers to manage their clients’ policies. Brokers can obtain quotes, bind cover, service policies and renewals entirely through the system, saving them time and reducing the administration required to manage clients’ accounts.

The launch of Legal for Business is Arc Legal’s first move into non-scheme Commercial Legal Expenses business and will play a key role in the growth of the company’s commercial market presence.

Arc Legal reinforces position as leading Marine LEI provider with two further broker scheme wins

Arc Legal is now the provider of around 70% of all Yacht and Dinghy Marine LEI policies in the UK following two new deals with specialist boat insurance providers.

One of the deals will see Arc Legal provide cover to over 20,000 clients of Noble Marine Insurance, one of the largest boat insurance brokers in the UK.

Arc Legal has developed an enhanced marine product, offering new and unique elements of cover and services specifically for pleasure craft owners. These services are backed up by a specialist marine law firm, who provide support in the claims process and operate a dedicated legal helpline. Arc Legal’s policy recently received a 4 star review in Insurance Age.

The future of Motor LEI

Richard Finan, Director of Arc Legal, has been discussing the future of Motor Legal Expenses Insurance following recent legislation and regulatory changes.

The implementation of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders (LASPO) Act, as well as changes to the level of fixed recoverable costs for RTA Portal claims, has left many Legal Expenses providers considering how they can tailor their business models in response to the changes.

The referral fee ban included as part of LASPO and the cap on fixed recoverable costs means many providers who rely on referral fee income are left with outdated models, and may end up leaving the market altogether. Arc Legal’s flexible business model - which has never relied on referral fee income - has allowed us develop a Motor LEI product that provides real benefits for today’s motorists, despite the changing legal framework.

FCA Thematic Review on Motor Legal Expenses welcome but regulator must continue to focus on consumer impact of new products and business models

Arc Legal has welcomed the publication of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Thematic Review of Motor Legal Expenses Insurance (MLEI), but believes that the emergence of new products and business models needs ongoing Regulator scrutiny to ensure consumers’ needs are met.

The Thematic Review was conducted prior to the changes brought about by LASPO and fixed recoverable costs. New products and models are appearing in the market as a result of these changes, however the review doesn’t consider the impact that these new offerings might have.

The move away from opt-out sales methods will have an effect on sales conversion levels, despite everyone’s best efforts to ensure customers are fully informed on the benefits of MLEI at the point of sale. Those who have opted not to purchase MLEI may be left in a position where they need to ‘top up’ solicitors costs out of any damages they are awarded in the event that they pursue a RTA personal injury claim without MLEI cover in place.
