1 IN 5 POLICE OFFICERS IN ENGLAND AND WALES

1 in 5 police officers in England and Wales now has access to legal assistance through Arc Legal.

Arc Legal Assistance (Arc), the bespoke legal costs insurance provider has secured the contract to offer a new personal legal expenses package to members of the Metropolitan Police Federation, the largest police federation in the country. This means that 1 in 5 officers across England and Wales now have access to cover arranged by Arc.

It adds to a growing portfolio of similar schemes – Arc already administers legal expenses cover for the City of London, Hertfordshire, Staffordshire and Suffolk police federations covering a total of 4,000 police officers.

The new package for the Metropolitan Police Federation has been developed by Arc in partnership with underwriter, Allianz Cornhill Legal Protection. It provides members with off duty cover and is designed to complement that which is already provided by the Federation to protect them whilst on duty. The Metropolitan scheme currently has 20,000 members ranging from Constables to Inspectors.

The new cover includes costs relating to personal injury, contractual disputes, disputes over or damage to property, disputes relating to employment contracts and prosecution defence including those relating to motor vehicles. Members will also have access to a telephone tax advice line.

Called ‘Police Officers Legal Assistance’, the scheme is arranged by specialist insurance broker, George Burrows, part of the Heath Lambert Group, the leading provider of group and personal insurance to the police service.
