Commercial Finance Analyst

Based in Colchester, we work with insurers, intermediaries, financial institutions and affinity groups, focusing upon delivering bespoke solutions providing 'best in market' legal advice and case handling.

Our business model for legal expenses insurance involves outsourcing legal advice and the legal conduct of claims to top quality law firms

Purpose of the role

This role will report to the Commercial Finance Manager and will support the business in providing financial analysis and insight.

Main Tasks

Financial modelling, reporting and scenario analysis:

  • Development and maintenance of pricing models
  • Development and maintenance of key underwriting profitability reports
  • Development and maintenance of contract reviews, including claims cost development rates and central cost apportionment
  • Development and maintenance of monthly claims analysis reports
  • Regular helplines reporting, analysis and cost/benefit analysis
  • Development and maintenance of panel solicitors performance review process
  • Development and maintenance of supplier profitability reports
  • Identification and development of new analysis reports

Providing business support to key stakeholders

  • Developing and maintaining relationships across the business
  • Supporting other departments with both regular and ad-hoc analysis
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve the performance of the business

Experience and Person Specification

Essential

  • Educated to good A-level standard (or equivalent) and must have a minimum 5 GCSEs (including English Language and Mathematics) at grade C or above
  • 2-4 years insurance sector experience
  • Ability to independently manage own workload
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work and make decisions under pressure
  • Personable and able to develop robust working relationships with people from a variety of departments and backgrounds
  • Confident and able to challenge people at various levels of seniority
  • Experience or knowledge of pricing analyst, schemes analyst, business analyst, project management skills or similar
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Analytical mind-set and experience of producing reports in excel
  • Creative, dynamic

Desirable

  • Able to demonstrate own initiative to propose improvements to current procedures and protocols and show innovation.
  • Experience in legal expenses insurance
  • Interest in data analytics and visualisation
  • Microsoft Power BI experience
