THE LEGAL SERVICES ACT AND THE OWNERSHIP OF LAW FIRMS

The opportunities and threats for insurers posed by the Legal Services Act, which will relax legislation on the ownership and operation of law firms, has generated media interest.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has launched a handbook laying out details of how it will regulate and operate alternative business structures and some retailers have indicated they plan to take advantage of the legislation by partnering with law firms. However, the insurance sector has not yet shown its level of interest.
