Arc Legal secures e-Underwriting Family and Landlord Legal Expenses Schemes

Arc Legal has secured two legal expenses schemes as part of household and property owners portfolios for e-Underwriting, the new division of OIM Underwriting Limited.

Arc Legal’s Family Legal Protection product offers a full suite of covers including consumer pursuit and defence; personal injury; and criminal prosecution defence. The legal expenses insurance and rent guarantee (LERG) product for landlords covers disputes with tenants; non-tenancy related property disputes; criminal prosecutions; and rent cover when a tenant defaults.

The Effect of Changes to the Legal Expenses market

Richard Finan, Director of Arc Legal has been commenting on the changes that the Legal Expenses Insurance market is facing as a result of changing legislation and regulation, particularly the pressure to allow a policyholder to select their own solicitor and the future of the add-on market.

Richard argues that by using a panel solicitor, policyholders will see that their indemnity goes further due to better cost-control, and that customer satisfaction when a panel solicitor is used is usually greater than when a policyholder selects their own solicitor.

Richard also discusses the potential of the market moving to a standalone model, suggesting that the UK could face challenges moving from a low cost add-on model to a high-cost standalone market for the same product being used

Richard was speaking to Insurance Age. The full article can be found on their website at www.insuranceage.co.uk.
