CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY UPDATE - Q1

30th March 2010

Arc Angels is Arc Legal’s corporate social responsibility programme. It was launched in 2008 and has continued its fundraising efforts with support for a number of charities.

January

St Helena Hospice makes it five for Arc Angels support

All Arc Legal staff were invited to nominate a new charity to be supported by Arc Angels in 2010. St Helena Hospice, based in Colchester, becomes the 5th voluntary organisation to be part of the programme and joins Essex Air Ambulance; Help the Heroes; Headway; and Metropolitan & City Police Orphans Fund.

The Hospice provides support to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people with life limiting illness, no matter what their diagnosis. It also supports families, including children, before and after bereavement. All services are free to patients and their carers. The Hospice relies on fundraising and donations to meet its annual running cost of £5million; it receives only 30% of the costs from the government.

Arc Angels will be organising fundraising activities throughout the year to support this very important cause.

BIGGA Silver Key Sponsorship

Arc Legal continued its support for The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) with the renewal of its Silver Key sponsorship.

The programme is designed to support the learning and development of golf greenkeepers. The funding provided means BIGGA can produce training and career material for young greenkeepers, help with fees, and subsidized learning and development courses.

February

Brownie Centenary support a piece of cake for Arc Angels

Arc Angels also supports the fundraising efforts of staff. Julie Rainbird, Arc Legal’s Assistant Claims Manager has been involved with the Brownies for over nine years and is currently District Commissioner for Welshwood District (Colchester). She is also championing the fund raising efforts for the district’s Centenary celebrations. Yes, Girlguiding UK is 100 this year! At 20.10pm on 20th October 2010, Vision 100 will take place when all Guides and Brownies will renew their promise.

In February 10 Brownies from Julie’s District set up a cake stall at Arc Legal’s offices and sold homemade cakes to staff and other businesses within the Lodge Park business centre to support the Centenary celebrations.

March

Sport Relief

Arc Legal employees embraced the spirit of Sport Relief this year. All staff turned up for work in Sportswear of all descriptions on 19th March when. The funds raised were matched by Arc Angels in recognition of this excellent charity.

Arc Legal Team to Hit the Road in Marathon Fundraiser

Richard Finan, Director of Arc Legal, and colleague Ian Brown, Senior Claims Advisor are competing in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for Sense, the national charity that supports and campaigns for deafblind adults and children.

Both men, who are entering their first Virgin London Marathon, will be raising funds under the auspices of Arc Angels. They will be joined by Matt Barbet, Five News' most popular newsreader, who is also running for Sense.

Commenting on their preparations for the race, Richard Finan said: “I’m training hard but I’m not quite as fit as Ian who is likely to leave me for dust. I hope to complete the race in about five hours and Ian hopes to sprint across the line in a little over four hours. It has the feeling of a tortoise and hare type battle so it will be interesting to see how things actually turn out on the big day.”
