Commercial Development Assistant

Arc Legal Assistance is a specialist provider of legal expenses insurance and related services. 

Based in Colchester, we work with insurers, intermediaries, financial institutions and affinity groups, focusing upon delivering bespoke solutions providing 'best in market' legal advice and case handling.

Our business model for legal expenses insurance involves outsourcing legal advice and the legal conduct of claims to top quality law firms.

Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Commercial Development Manager, the Commercial Development Assistant will provide effective support to the commercial development function.

Main Tasks

Commercial Development

  • Providing support to the Commercial Development Manager for new business opportunities including:
    • Production of pricing terms for new opportunities using agreed pricing models, claims experiences and other relevant information available
    • Drafting of underwriting papers for pricing proposals
    • Liaison with the Underwriting and Product Management team to source proposals from appropriate product suppliers
    • Production of sales literature including quotation documents, tender documents and presentations

Business Implementation

  • Assistance implementing new contracts, including liaising with clients (issuing documentation, outlining process etc.) and setting up the contract internally, including liaising with internal departments (completion of contract management forms, requesting policy wordings etc.)

Product Development

  • Continual benchmark of existing products against market and competitor offering to ensure that our products continue to be best in market
  • Assistance developing enhancements to existing products and developing new products, including supplier liaison and set-up, in accordance with Underwriting and Product Management team function

General

  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be set by the Commercial Development Manager and Directors
  • Ensuring all duties are carried out in accordance with company procedures and FCA
  • Ad-hoc project work

Key Interfaces

Internal

The role will include liaison with all departments in the company, however the majority of day-to-day interface will be with the Underwriting & Product Management team, and the company Director’s where appropriate.

External

  • Existing and perspective clients
  • Underwriters and suppliers
  • Other stakeholders, such as within AmTrust Group

Limits of Authority

The Commercial Development Manager (and directors where applicable) will review and approve all activities where necessary.

  • Maximise sales opportunities through detailed and thorough target list generation
  • All commercial development related materials produced to an exemplary and market leading standard, to reflect the business’ position in the Legal Expenses and ancillary products market
  • Pricing recommendations to be accurate to ensure that terms proposed are competitive yet sustainable and profitable for both Arc Legal and our underwriting partners
  • Ensure we are offer market leading ancillary products by adopting a continuous improvement attitude to product development, both for our existing product range and potential new product offerings
  • Maintaining a positive brand reputation at all times

  • Liaise effectively with other departments to achieve the department’s objectives

Experience and Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree level education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent organisational and time keeping skills
  • Confidence to own tasks without supervision
  • Experience of using all Microsoft Office programs

Desirable

  • Strong Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Good investigative and research skills
  • Knowledge of Legal Expenses
  • Commercial Development / Sales experience
  • Experience of working in Financial Services Industry
